Grand Mercure Imperial Palace Seoul Gangnam has announced that it has been awarded the prestigious international eco-certification, ‘Green Key’, recognizing its commitment to sustainable and environmentally responsible hotel management.

The Green Key program is a global certification operated in cooperation with the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). It is granted to tourism and hospitality establishments that demonstrate excellence in sustainable business practices. The certification process involves both document reviews and on-site inspections across 13 categories, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, and use of eco-friendly products — requiring compliance with over 80 international standards.

Grand Mercure Imperial Palace Seoul Gangnam has implemented a wide range of sustainability initiatives, such as the use of eco-certified products, paper reduction programs, a “Green Card” linen and towel reuse system, installation of refillable bathroom dispensers, and paid amenity programs to minimize single-use plastics. The hotel also promotes ethical sourcing through the use of 100% cage-free eggs and actively adopts eco-friendly measures across its F&B operations. Furthermore, the property adheres to Accor’s stringent environmental standards, implementing robust energy-saving policies.

Mr. Chang Soo Lee, General Manager of Grand Mercure Imperial Palace Seoul Gangnam, stated,

“The Green Key certification is a testament to our ongoing commitment to Accor’s sustainability philosophy and our efforts toward responsible hospitality. We will continue to deliver positive value to both our guests and the local community as a truly eco-conscious hotel.”
